She's The Kind Of Mom You Want, But Don't Deserve

This is a Spoken Word poem I wrote for my Language Arts class.

Lying on the sofa in our dim living room was my mom

Small dog on her legs and fluffy cat on her chest

She's the kind of mom you want, but don't deserve.

Helen Cahn, aka Mom.

She graduated college with a Bachelor's degree.

She’s a stay-at-home mom, a cares-for-her-mom mom, a fight-for-the-family mom,

Just like Chief Joseph.

Just like Chief Joseph she’ll speak up, out, down, and sideways.

She's the kind of mom you want, but don't deserve.

Going through her job, burdened with degrading stares.

Rising above it like a phoenix rising from its ashes.

Respect for her, ever growing.

She's the kind of mom you want, but don't deserve.

The fluffy cat slinks down and leaves, as if to prove this interview is over.

The End
