"Grandma, Grandpa! I'm home!" I yelled, walking into my house, trying to take off my shoes quickly. Kyle took of his shoes too, and followed me into the kitchen. My grandparents were sitting at the table and seemed to be having a serious conversation. But I didn't care, I wanted to tell them the news now. "Hey, sorry to interrupt but I have something to ask." She looked surprised to see me this excited.
"And what on earth would that be?" Grandma replied, laughing slightly.
"Can I move in with Kyle?" I asked. They both exchanged looks. Obviously they were shocked, but also slightly worried. Maybe they're thinking of it differently. "Don't worry, it's just as room mates, guy friends you know. It's also to learn how to become independent."
"Are you sure about this Codey? This is a real big decision, and you two just met each other," Grandpa stated, worriedly.
"Oh, it was my idea, sir. He's always at my house anyways, so I thought it would be easier for him to stay with me. And since we both work, we could just split the rent," replied Kyle.
"Yea! Plus, I'm always depending on you two and I don't want you both to have to worry about me all the time. You two have always protected me for all these years. I'm ready to be independent and can protect myself now," I stated. "Please, please, please!" They looked at each other for a long while, then sighed.
"Okay, but if you ever miss us or you need help, you can always come to us," sighed Grandma, starting to tear up. I couldn't believe it, they said yes!
"Really? Thank you so mush! And don't worry, I'll come and visit whenever you want me to!" I yelled, while hugging them both. Kyle was so happy he was jumping up and down, but when he saw grandpa's expression, he stopped. "I'm going to start packing, then get the rest of my stuff this weekend, okay?" I said, starting to leave the kitchen.
"You're leaving right now?" asked grandma.
"Yea, why not?"
"Well, can you at least stay for dinner. We'll have a celebration for your independence." I thought about it for a while. "Kyle, you too, since you're already here. You too must be hungry. Please, it's the least I can do."
"Of course we'll stay for dinner," I stated, nudging Kyle in the stomach.
"Oh, uh, i would be honored. Thank you for your hospitality, ma'am." Grandma blushed.
"Okay, well I'm gonna start packing clothes for this week." I ran upstairs as quickly as possible with so much excitement. I cant believe I'm going to be living with Kyle!
Kyle turned to follow me when my grandpa stopped him. "I think my wife and I have to have a word with you," he said. Kyle sat down at the table. He was waiting for the 'Don't hurt our baby boy' speech.
"We just got some . . . disturbing news before you two got here," stated my grandma, "And we wanted to warn you." Kyle looked really confused. "You already know about Codey's father right? . . . "
After an hour of getting stuff together, I ran downstairs to feel a weird atmosphere. I heard grandpa say 'Watch out for my boy, I don't want anything to harm him'. Then I heard Kyle say 'Don't worry, I won't let anyone hurt Codey. They stopped talking when my grandma put her hand on grandpa's shoulder. Kyle turned around in his chair to look at me.
"What were you guys just talking about?" I asked, confused.
"Nothing, they just asked me a bunch of questions just to make sure that you're not living with a creeper," stated Kyle jokingly. Grandma and grandpa were both smiling so it looks like Kyle did okay. I shrugged off what I heard before and sat down.
"Ok. So, where are we going to go for this 'celebration' dinner?"
"How about we go to that Japanese restaurant that you really like?" asked grandpa, "What do ya say Kyle, up for some Asian food?"
"Then it's decided, lets go!" I said cheerfully. As we were there eating, everyone was having a great time. It also seemed like Kyle and my grandpa were hitting it off. I'm glad we could all get along.
After dinner, I stopped by the house to get my things, and Kyle and I went to our new home together. As I put my clothes in a cleared out drawer, Kyle put my toiletries in the bathroom.
"Would you like me to put your tooth brush next to mine honey," he giggled.
"Haha, shove it up your ass darling," I replied sweetly, throwing a shampoo bottle at him. He caught it and laughed. We got dressed for bed and got into bed. No matter how I thought about it, this will always be awkward. I stayed on the far left side of the bed, leaving a giant gap between us.
"You don't have to worry, I'm not going to hurt you ya know," Kyle said, looking at me. I tried to avoid his gaze but ended up looking at him straight in the face.
"No, I'm good over here," I replied nervously.
"Oh come on," he grabbed me and pulled me closer. I struggled to move back but he held me close to him. "If you keep on struggling, you're going to fall off the bed." My head was really close to his chest. I stopped struggling and noticed that my hands were on his stomach, from struggling.
"Sorry!" I yelled, blushing. He chuckled.
"Don't worry about it. We're just friends so it's okay." Hearing this made me a little bit sad.
"Right, my bad. Good night," I said while turning out the light. I rolled over and tried to sleep. Kyle sighed.
"Nice going, dumb ass," he whispered to himself.
A little while later he fell asleep. I turned back over and looked at his sleeping face. He looked so peaceful. I moved a little closer to him and he groaned. I got freaked out and started to go back, but he reached out and held me close. Was he awake? I noticed my face was in his chest again. I looked up at him and saw that he was still sleeping. I smiled and kissed his cheek. What he doesn't know won't hurt him. Plus, I can always say he grabbed me in the middle of the night and wouldn't let go (not really lying). I had a feeling that I was going to like living with Kyle.
