The council was sufficiently surprised to see me walking and talking, or that was at least what I told myself.

The hair startled me too, whenever I caught sight of myself in a reflective surface. I had never, not even in my wildest dreams, imagined that I would have…pink and purple hair.

Well, then again, I hadn’t imagined I would be the military commander of hell with Satan doing his level best to seduce me.

From the reports I heard, the war was going well for our side. Purgatory had more power than expected, but it made sense that they had been hoarding military might before infringing on our borders.

I was still slightly on edge as the meeting drew to a close, and everyone started filing out of the tent.

I looked up to see the unnamed member of the council watching me, leaning against the table behind him.

“We’re in a war.” I chuckled awkwardly, wondering why he was hanging around, “I guess you could say that.”

He pulled out a cigarette and lit it with his fingers, taking a long drag.

“Believe it or not, Commander, I am a god. I can…sense things.”

I raised an eyebrow incredulously, waving the smoke out of my face.

“Like what?”

His blue eyes focused on me.

“You have the King on your mind.”

I groaned internally.

“Did Eversio put you up to this?” I sighed, “Whatever he paid you, I’ll –”

“-No, he didn’t.” he smirked, “I already told you –”

“You sense things.” I completed, eyes narrowed sardonically.

“Exactly,” he replied, amused.

“So…what are you hoping to achieve, by ‘sensing’ what I’m thinking?” I asked, folding my arms.

He tapped the cigarette, dropping the ash onto the ground.

“Athena rules logic and strategy. Dionysus madness and revelry. Matters of the heart are my domain.”

I looked at him incredulously.

“So…who are you? Cupid?”

He flinched at the sound of the name.

“I’ve been called that before.” He admitted, “Though I prefer to remain nameless.”

“Ok, Cupid,” I started, “What do you want? To offer me some advice on my nonexistent love life?”

“Something like that.” He shrugged, “I’ve been out of practice for so long, I almost miss being worshipped. Humor me.”

“Fine.” I muttered, “Though if you ask me, there are many people who would be better candidates – “

“Yes, yes,” he cut me off, stomping his cigarette into the ground, “Now tell me, what about the King has you so worried?”

I looked at him incredulously.

“You’re telling me you don’t even know? What happened to ‘sensing’?”

“I’m a bit rusty.” He admitted, “And it’s safer to ask than guess.”

“You probably know about Lucifer’s…habits when it comes to women.” I muttered, “And seeing as I’m female, I’m unfortunate enough to have him constantly hitting on me.”

Cupid smirked.

“Unfortunate? Most would choose to disagree.”

“I’m a teenager!” I hissed, “And he’s technically…my boss. It’s…disturbing.”

"So you want him to stop?"

"Can you do that?" I asked, amazed.

"No," he admitted, "But if you just give him what he wants, he'll leave you alone."

"That's not about to happen." I shot back, "I have at least a few shreds of dignity, you know?"

"So you have no interest in him?"

I hesitated for a split-second and Cupid laughed.

"You don't even know yourself, do you?" he laughed, "That's...hilarious."

"Lucifer could seduce a convent." I reasoned, "He toys with women for fun. Uses them."

"And you don't want to be used?" Cupid nodded, "I see."

A few moments passed before I replied.

"So that's where things stand. What should I do, Doc?"

The End
