Saying Goodbye

You left without saying goodbye. God, how could I forget? You had promised, remember? Promised that you wouldn't leave me, not without saying goodbye first. You didn't leave a message, you didn't leave a note, all you left was a faded memory of you. When I close my eyes, all I can see is your face, smiling right back to me, saying the same thing you said the last time we spoke.

"Everything is going to be alright."

Well it's not alright. It hasn't been since you left. I still cry for you, even though it's been almost a year since you left us. I still have the same locker, right next to where yours used to be, and I still go over to your house on Tuesdays and help tutor Cindy. I've helped your mom out around the house too, taking over some of the jobs you used to do. I can see it in her eyes, she misses you so much, we all do. The whole town loved you, and when you left, it hurt all of us.

Do you remember that one day in April? The day I told you how I felt? It was down by the church on a Thursday evening, and it was raining so badly. You had just caught your boyfriend cheating on you, and you were devastated. As always, I was there for you, I was there to help you pick up the pieces and move on, just like I always did. I made sure that this time was different though. Instead of the usual speech, telling you'll find someone better, I told you how I felt.

The End
