Alyssa poked her head around the door and saw Camilla and I standing there. She opened the latch and ushered us inside. She was living back home again after Blackrock Institute had been shut down.
“Thanks for coming over guys” she said, leading us into the sitting room. She went to the kitchen and made three cups of tea. She carried them back in and gave us one each before sitting down. “I have some news and I had to tell you”.
“We have some news too” I said, “Two pieces of news actually”. I reached into my bag and pulled out a photo. “But first I have to give this to you”. I handed her the photo. It was of her and Logan; taken at her birthday party in the institute. It was the only photo that existed of the two of them together. She smiled when I gave it to her and a tear came to her eye.
“I miss him so much” she said.
“Me too” I said.
“What’s your news anyway?” she asked. “You go first”.
“Do you want the good news or bad news first?” I asked.
“Bad news” she said. “Always bad news first”.
“Okay” I said, taking a deep breath. “I… I was raped two nights ago” I said.
“WHAT?!” Alyssa asked, spitting out a mouthful of tea.
“We were out drinking” Camilla said. “And we bumped into two guys. I went off with one of them… but the other drugged Mia and raped her”.
“Why the fuck did you leave her alone?” Alyssa asked, coming over and hugging me.
“I know… I shouldn’t have… but I was drunk”.
“That’s no excuse”.
“I know. I feel terrible”.
“It’s okay” I said. “I don’t blame you Camilla”.
“I blame myself though” she said.
“Who was it?” Alyssa asked.
“Camilla knows” I said, “But I don’t want to know. I can’t remember”.
“Have you told the police?”
“Not yet. I’ve done a pregnancy test but I’m clear” I said. `
“Text me who it was Camilla” Alyssa said. Camilla picked up her phone and sent the message. Alyssa looked at it and her eyes widened in shock. “That fucking bastard”.
“Don’t tell me who it is” I said.
“I won’t, but we have to make him pay” Alyssa said.
“We will” Camilla said.
“I don’t want to talk about it anymore. Do you want to know the good news now?” I asked.
“Sure thing” Alyssa said. I could see the concern etched on her face.
“My parents gave the doctor the order to turn off Logan’s life support yesterday” I said.
“WHAT?! HOW IS THAT GOOD NEWS?” tears began to stream from her eyes.
“Because he started to breathe on his own” I said, smiling. “He’s fighting back”.
“Really?” she asked, a smile spreading on her face. I nodded.
“He is still in a coma, but he doesn’t need the machines anymore” I said.
“That’s great news!” Alyssa said, hugging me again. Camilla joined in and we all hugged one another. “He’s trying to come back to us”.
“He is. And he will” I said. We kept hugging for another few minutes before returning to our seats. “So what is your news Alyssa?” I asked.
She picked up her mug and took a sip of tea; her eyes flicking back and forth between us both. “Is it good or bad?” Camilla asked.
“It’s wonderful” Alyssa said, “But it’s terrifying”.
“You can tell us” I said.
She took a deep breath and looked at me. “I’m pregnant” she said.
“What?” Camilla and I said at the same time.
“I’m pregnant” she said again, “With Logan’s baby”.
“That’s brilliant!” I said, leaping up and running to her side to hug her. “This is so exciting”.
“It’s terrifying” Alyssa said.
“What do you mean?”
“What if Logan’s not around to raise it with me? What if it gets any of my issues? What if I can’t handle it?”
“Alyssa you will definitely be able to handle it!” Camilla said.
“And we’ll be here to help you” I said. “And so will Logan, because he is going to wake up”.
“I’m scared” she said.
“I would be too” I said, “but that’s natural. Every woman must be scared when they find out they are carrying a baby. But this is amazing Alyssa. It’s wonderful!”
“I know it is” she said, smiling and patting her stomach. “In eight months you’re going to be an auntie, and I’m going to be a mother” she said, a tear rolling down her cheek.
“And Logan is going to be a father” I added, hugging her.
“It’s going to be amazing” Camilla said.
