When the bell went, I walked over to her. “What was the matter?” I asked her.
“Well, I asked Saffi if I could be in their group, and she said yes. Then, she asked Gale, who also said yes. But when they asked Clarisse, she said no. She said they were just a three, but they let Millie into their group. The three of them hate Millie!” She said, fighting back tears.
“Maybe their original plan was to be a three, but Miss told them to have Millie.” I reasoned. She shook her head and said,
“They still could of come back and asked me,” she sighed. I felt bad - I had run out of advice and she still thought Clarisse hated her. The atmosphere between us was subdued as we walked silently to lunch.
“Hi!” Our friend Rhona called.
“Hiya,” we replied.
“What’s up, Reyna?” Rhona asked, noticing her quietness. She explained what had happened.
“Oh,” Rhona said, “That’s bad.” As we ate, we tried to forget about Miss C and her minions. But I could tell Reyna wasn’t convinced by my theory. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I even believed myself. Things weren’t looking good, and there seemed to be nothing I could say or do to help.
