(Re)learning How to Fly, One Day at a Time: Day FourteenMature

DAY FOURTEEN: THE PARTY

Naomi:

"Come on, Naomi, tell me who we're dressed as!! Please!" Adam begged, kissing my jawline, trying to get me to tell.

"Fiiiiiiiiiiine. You know that one movie that was on last weekend on ABC Family?"

"Which one? It was a whole marathon of movies, Nao!"

"The one called '10 Things I Hate About You.' Two sisters, over protective dad.....?"

"OH! I remember that one. Go on..."

"Oh, come on, Adam!!! We're Pat and Kat!"

"...What?"  He said, raising an eyebrow.

"Patrick Verona and Kat, the older sister!  Now come on, Patrick, Addie's gonna kill us if we don't get in there soon!"\

He rolled his eyes and smiled. "Fine."

We walked through the main doors to the hotel the party was in and where Addie's mom worked.  I immediately felt the thumping bass line coming from the ballroom, and the pulsing rainbow colored lights reflected out into the lobby.

Once we entered the ballroom, Addie wasn't hard to find.  She wore a minature bowler hat on the top of her head, held on by a barely visible elastic, and an ice blue strapless silk party dress.  Theo was next to her, light brown hair in a casual disarray, clashing with his very professional looking white button down shirt and black slacks.

"Patrick, Kat, dahlings, we're over here!"  Addison called over to us as soon as we passed her line of sight.

"Addison!  Looking good, hon.  And just who are you two?"

"Reporters from the 1920s, Kat.  And both of you look simply, charming, dearies."

"Addie, could you PLEASE not use that awful accent when you're talking to us? PLEASE?!"  Adam said, annoyed.

"Thank you, Adam.  Thank you so much!"  Theo said, obviously grateful.

"Let's go dance."  Adam whispered, lips grazing my ear.

I let him lead me out onto the middle of the floor, just as a slow song began.

Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone.

You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and not feel your rain.

Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

You loved me 'cause I'm fragile.
When I thought that I was strong.
But you touch me for a little while and all my fragile strength is gone.

Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

I live here on my knees as I try to make you see that you're everything I think I need here on
The ground.
But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go.
The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down.

You're on to me, on to me and all over
Something always brings me back to you,
It never takes too long.

For once, I wasn't concentrating on anything.  The music was just a soft humming in the background to me, the lights just a soft glow.  Adam and I were swaying more to our own beat than to the music.  I rested my head against his shoulder, only being able to reach it because of the heels on my boots.

"This isn't so bad after all, is it, Kat?"  Adam whispered just loud enough for me to hear.

"No, it's not... 'Cause I'm here with you."  I looked up at him and smiled.

"You're such a sap."

"I know I am.  You are too, ya know."

"Only 'cause of you."

"True..."  I sighed.  It took a minute to register that the song had changed to a much faster tempo, and we broke apart.  Mostly due to Addison grabbing ahold of my arm and dragging me away to the bathroom.

"What the hell?!"  I said, rubbing my arm where her nails had pinched my skin.

"That was sooooo adorable!!"  She said, jumping up and down.

"You used your claws to drag me in here just to say that?  Seriously?!"  I glared at her.

"Wayell, not ONLY that... Me and Theo got pictures!"

"You did not!"  I said in denial, though somewhere, deep down, deeep deeeeep deeeeeeep down, I was somewhat happy about that.

"We did!"  She said, handing me the camera.

I scanned through the first five.  "These pictures aren't half bad, Addie.  That photography class is really paying off."

"I'm sooooooo uploading them to facebook later."

"No you aren't."

"Yes, I am."

"No, you're not.  I am."  I smiled at her.

"Well, either way, they're going on facebook."

"Whatever.  Let's go back."

"I actually need to talk to Mom about something real quick, you go on without me."

"Uh! Fine."  I walked back into the ballroom, glancing around, trying to find Adam and Theo.

"Naomi!"  A familiar voice said behind me, though it wasn't the one I expected.

I spun on my heel.  "Wyatt?!"  I said in confusion.

"Don't act so surprised to see me, Nao.  You know you were looking for me."  He slurred and cornered me against the wall.

"Wyatt, you're... you're drunk?!  How the hell are you drunk?!?"

"Shhhhh, shhhh, that doesn't matter."  He said, placing a finger on my lips, and then replaced the finger with his own lips.

Not even experiencing a moment of shock, I had a knee-jerk reaction.  Literally.  I kneed him where the sun don't shine.

"What was that for?"  He groaned, doubling over. ]

"What the hell, Wyatt?!  Get the hell away from me!!"  I yelled, severely mad.

"What happened?"  Adam said, coming up behind me, obviously oblivious.

"He's DRUNK!  He kissed me so I kneed him!!"

"He kissed you?!?!?!?!  Wait, where, exactly, did you knee him?"

I gestured at Wyatt, who was still doubled over.  "Where do you THINK I kneed him?"

"That's my girl!"  Adam picked me up and spun me around as he did at Rose's shop.

The End
