DAY SEVEN PART FOUR:
"Let me see." I said, trying to sound encouraging. I smiled at him, hoping he would let me see his sketch.
He passed his open book to me, and my jaw dropped.
Miss Taylor was right, the sketch did me more justice than even a professional posed photograph would. Something in the lines and the shading told a story, making me look beautiful and delicate, some strong emotion affecting the way the portrait looked than if it were just a photograph.
"Adam, this is really good!!! You drew this in that little of time?!" I looked up at him, ecstatic for multiple reasons.
When Miss Taylor first asked who the girl was, I was actually kind of mad, because I wasn't expecting it to be me, and I didn't like the thought of him drawing another girl. Which, I guess, would have meant I was jealous. But, I was ecstatic for reasons other than Adam drew a really good picture. He drew a really good picture of me, and that had to mean something. It had to.
It almost seemed like he was blushing when I met his gaze, but I wasn't sure. "Uh, thanks, Naomi. It's really not that good. Now that you've seen my sketch, I get to see yours."
My smile faded immediately. "No."
"I'm not finished." I lied.
"Do you think I was when you looked at mine?"
"Adam, you know how I am with people seeing my work before it's finished!!! It drives me nuts!"
"Naomi, it's only fair." He said, mock-sternly.
"Never said I was fair."
"Pleeeeease, Naomi!!!!!" Adam whined like a two year old.
"Fine, Adam!" I said, pushing my sketchbook towards him.
He lifted the sketchpad off of the table and studied my drawing for a moment. He set it back down and smiled at me.
"Naomi, that was really...." He started, but then hesitated.
"What, awful?" I said, trying to get him to continue.
"No, I was going to say beautiful. That's an awesome drawing, Naomi."
"I'm serious, Nao! It's really good! I wouldn't lie to you, Naomi."
"Fine, I believe you."
"No you don't."
"Adam, would you just shut up already?" I teased, smiling to let him know I wasn't completely serious.
"No, I won't."
"Omigosh!!!!! It is so dull without Addie!!!!" I said in between bites of pizza at lunch.
"Are you saying I'm dull?!" Adam teased, poking me in the side.
"No, I'm not, and you can't tickle me that anymore, Adam!!" I said, stifling my giggles.
"Really? Then why are you giggling?" He said, noticing the color change of my face from trying to hold in the giggles.
"Because... You're so funny!" I lied obviously.
"Nu-uh!" He said, and began to tickle me again.
"Adam, stop it!" I said, falling back on the grass and trying to roll away.
He remembered the best way to try and tickle me, though. He softly brushed his fingers down the bare skin of my forearm, making me squirm and laugh harder.
"Adam!!!!" I squealed.
"Oh, so what do we have here?" A nasally voice said condescendingly from behind us.
"What-do-you-want-Vicky?" I said in between giggles and gasps, sitting up though Adam was still tickling me.
"My name's Victoria, thank you."
"Still. What do you want?"
"Oh, I was just checking in." She said, too sweet.
"And why would you do that?" I said, no longer effected by Adam's tickling.
"Because I can. And the whole school is going to love to hear about this." She said menacingly, pulling her hand from behind her back, and holding her phone for me to see the picture she had taken while we hadn't realized she was there.
"Don't you dare, you bitch!" I said, standing up and taking a step towards Victoria.
"You really wanna do that, Naomi? All the trouble you would get in, plus all of the drama the push of one button would cause you?" Victoria said, smiling, knowing she was going to win.
Or, at least, that's what she thought.
Adam came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me like he had before, except for this time, he spun me towards him and did something I would have never expected him to do.
He kissed me full on the lips.
