"Come on, Naomi! Open up!" Addison continued to bang on my apartment door.
"Wakey wakey! Nao, sweetheart, we brought ice cream! Strawberry, your favorite!" Adam yelled.
"Go away, you guys! It's too early!" I shouted from my bedroom, just a room away from the door.
"Naomi, it's eleven in the morning. Time to wake up and smell the Starbucks!" Adam said, walking into my bedroom with a cardboard cupholder full of Frappucinos in hand, Addison walking in behind him with a Kroger bag swinging from her wrist.
"If you would have just said you had Starbucks....... And how the hell did you get in here?!" I asked.
Both Addison and Adam ignored my question and plopped down on either side of me.
"You okay, Naomi?" Addie asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Why?" I lied, trying to be at least slightly convincing.
"Don't lie to us, Nao." Adam scolded, putting his arm around my shoulders.
"What?! I'm not lying!"
"Yeah, you are, Nao. For one thing, your eyes are still bloodshot from crying--" Addison said, and I cringed.
"And Wyatt told us what he did." Adam finished, looking solemn.
Without warning, tears started rolling down my face. Again.
"Damn. You would think that they would be dry by now." I said bitterly.
They both oh-honey'd me and smooshed me into a group hug.
"So..." Addie said after a few minutes.
"What is it, Addie?" I asked, telling by the tone of her voice she was going to ask something I didn't want to answer.
"Are you going to tell us your side of the story?" She asked softly.
"I-I can't tell it. At least, not yet. I can't remember it." I whispered, the pain hitting me again.
"Do you need me to kick his ass for you, hon?" Adam asked, completely serious.
"No, I don't." I smiled weakly. "Could we all just.... Hang out today?"
"Sure thing, Naomi." They both said.
A Saturday that normally would have been spent out with my two best friends and my now ex-boyfriend turned into a day in with my two best friends and some Starbucks coffee.
I guess I'll have to learn how to fly again.... One day at a time.
