"You haven't changed at all. How old are you now? Seventeen, eighteen?"
"Who are you?" she narrowed her eyes at him, distressed by the familiarity in his voice and question.
"I go by many different names to many different people. Do you not remember the name you gave me?"
"I don't know who you are."
"No, you don't remember. There's a difference." He looked at her for a few moments. "My name is Storm. I am an ally to the vampires you associate with, and a friend of Zeke."
She narrowed her eyes at him further still. "Where are we?" She asked.
He looked up at the tree canopy. "This is the unnamed rainforest that lies a few miles to the west of Paräre. Not that it means anything to you."
"Why am I here?"
"You are technically dreaming, but for me this is reality. This is my world. I brought your subconscious here."
"Why? In fact, how am I supposed to know you?"
"It's an incredibly long story that requires a lot of explaining. For now, all you need to know is that you're safe around me. Nothing will hurt you."
Beth wanted to believe him because, yes, there was something familiar about him. The reddish-purple of his eyes was... Comforting if nothing else.
"I believe you," she said before she'd even realised she'd opened her mouth.
"Good. That's a step forward at least."
“Why did you bring me here?” she asked.
“I needed to speak with you. A couple of days ago, Da’lela sent me a message. It was a surprise it got through so quickly if I am truly honest. Nevertheless, she mentioned that you mated Robert, the Vampire Queen’s Chosen, yes?”
