Normal Life

I am waking up. A light blue ceiling ahead of me. My bedroom. I love my bedroom so much, I love how it looks out onto the stars and the moon at night. I love how it looks over the fields and the town. I feel great. I push the duvet off and leave the room. I look over the banister to see my Gran talking to my Mam and her best friend, Laura.

“Hello darling how you feeling?” Gran asks me smiling; I sit opposite and smile back.

“Hi Gran, I feel great” I say smiling.

“That’s fantastic, how about I make you your favourite fried eggs on toast eh?”

“I’d love that thanks Gran”

“It’s alright darling” I turn to look at my Mam on the right of me and see that she looks very tired.

“What’s wrong Mam?”

“You what?” she asks and looks at me.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing darling” she holds my hand and puts it to her chest. “I’m just tired; I didn’t get enough sleep last night”

“Oh okay”

“Amy” Laura says and I turn to look at her. “Your Mam’s going to be busy with work later, so do you want to come around mine? I’ve got a few things I need you to do for me”

“Yeah that’s fine”

“It’s only in the loft, don’t worry, its not in the shed where all the spiders are”

“That’s good”

“Are you alright with that Kelly?”

“Yes... as long as I get her back in one piece” she says, holds me close and kisses me on the forehead. Gran puts a plate in front of me, fried eggs on toast, yum. I grab the knife and fork and dive in.

“Thanks Gran” I say eating.

“It’s alright... and how about tonight you lot come round mine for a takeaway and watch Amy’s favourite film, which pirates of the Caribbean do you want?” Gran asks.

“Hm... the forth... that’s the better one”

“Yeah it is... and you can have your favourite chicken tikki masala”

“I do have the best Gran in the world”

“Yeah you do, your Mam’s pretty great as well”

“Yeah she is” ahh life, the way things are. Going round to my Gran’s for a takeaway, helping Laura in her house, helping my Mam around the house and going on long walks in the fields and mountains. The way life should be. The way life always was. And the way it will be for a long time.

The End
