A Big Change

Waking up I find myself staring at a light blue ceiling. Wait. Light blue? That’s different. I sit up; I look to the left and look out of a window next to me looking out onto a field. On my right is a bedside table, on the right side is a table with notepads, pens and books over it, straight ahead of me is a wardrobe and a door. I am so confused. I take the duvet off me and find that I am wearing dark blue trousers and a dark blue strap top. Clearly, something has dramatically changed in the past few hours, and I am going to find out what. I hear voices outside. I go to the doorway and sit down.

“.. I am telling you for the millionth time Laura she is going to walk down those stairs and come crying into my arms” Kelly says.

“Ha, spare me Kelly” Laura says.

“Just watch, she’s due to wake up any minute now and I know that’s going to happen”

“Yeah... okay Kelly”

“Hm” there is a pause. What now? Do I dare go out there? Someone could cut the silence with a knife in this place. Well. There is only one way to find out. I step out the room, and I feel all eyes look up at me. I look right, and down over the banister where people are sitting around a table in the middle of a room, and on a sofa on the right side.

“Hi baby” Kelly says. Baby? What? Is this some weird kind of greeting? I walk down the stairs and look at the people staring at me. Kelly gets up and meets me at the bottom of the stairs. “Are you okay?”

“I’m..... fine” I say looking around the room. We are standing in a kitchen area with a fridge, a cooker and work surface tops. In the middle is a table with people at it. Over on the right and against the banister is a sofa with people on it, over on the left is a big television and more sofas and a coffee table nearby. She goes to take my hand, but I snap back and step away from her.

“I’m sorry... do you want something to eat?”

“.... eat?” What is this... eat... thing? I don’t get that.

“Yeah, you need to eat something” Eat something? I don’t understand this. I shake my head and walk backwards.

“Ha” Laura says, Kelly shoots an evil look over to her and looks back at me and smiles.

“Let’s sit down” she goes for me again, but I back against the stairs. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know where I am. I don't know why there acting like this. But I don’t like where this is going.

The End
