20 Mph

I realized why we slow down in elementary school zones.

It’s for the children.

To keep their innocence

To wish for their age

To freeze the next eight years of their fast life.

I stare at a little girl,

in a pretty blue frock and blackMary Janes

and think, don’t ever grow up.

One day you’ll be like me,

Wishing to be young again.

Where nothing was complicated,

and dramatic.

The only thing you need to worry about

is to be nice to your brother

and finish thosemath problems.

Everything is so simple for you,

and I’m jealous.

I hit the white line

and speed to catch up with life.

The End
