“Camden, I don’t belong in your world. I would feel so strange, meeting your family. Today, with you, was the most social interaction I’ve had with anyone in my life. I don’t think I’m ready for more.”
Her voice shook as she spoke, causing Camden to feel a guilty pang. He didn’t want to force her into this but at the same time, he felt like he owed her something in return for helping him out.
Sighing, he ran a hand through his dark black hair as Daphne watched him, waiting for a reply. An idea sparked inside Camden’s mind instead, causing him to immediately brighten up.
“What about I join you for dinner at this same point? I’ll sneak out with some food and we can enjoy the meal together.”
Camden saw an argument break out in Daphne’s mind as her eyes battled the contemplation. Finally, sighing, she said, “If it’s not too much trouble for you, then that would be great.”
