One of the ferrets from behind moved forward, carrying something in his small arms. It glinted as the sunlight hit it; of metallic material. It wasn't till the ferret got closer did Daphne recognize it to be a knife. He stepped forward, placing the knife in her hand.
"You want me to have this?"
A nod in response.
"But I can't. This is yours."
The irony of what she'd said struck her. The ferret looked back, and for a second she could have sworn that he'd lifted that brown eyebrow of his. Giggling to herself, she nodded and petted it lightly.
"Thank you all, for giving me a weapon. As freaky as that sounds in my head."
Rolling her eyes to herself, she stood up and looked around the setting. She loved the forest, but Daphne knew she couldn't stay here forever. She needed to go back to the human world. Relying on animals isn't something she wanted to do for the rest of her life.
She was about to take a step forward when she heard it - the slightest rustle.
Someone was here.
