Post-Singularity

The clouds were angry that day, surely the only reason it had poured all morning. Great time for a hike, Khon told himself, next time he would have to ask the clouds how they felt before wandering out into the woods.

The bear-sized creature was still talking, he recognized it as a wolverine hybrid.  "I know we just met, and I chose not to kill you because you looked so down on yourself, you really shouldn't be sad you know, this is the new dawn of mankind, even if you are some of the lowest forms of life on this planet. Another reason would be the fact that I owe my intelligence to your ancestors, but I hardly take that into consideration anymore. So, will you follow me to the meeting?"

The wolverine was wobbling alongside him, speaking as if to his best friend in the world. Khon had never met one of his type before, there were hundreds of sentient creatures within hiking distance of Home, yet he had never chosen to venture out before. It was uncanny, he had everything he needed at Home, yet, he theorized, there came a time in a man's life when he needs to do some soul searching, away from the familiar.

He had set out with nothing but the clothes on his back, a monoblade to deal with any hostility, and a small pack with enough dried synthesized meat and fruits to last him a week, water to boot. The carnivorous beast had finally stopped talking, he was still a little angry at it for attacking him, the monoblade had been useless inside his pack, he hadn't anticipated predators that close to Home. He had been checking his gauntlet to get an idea of the surrounding country and to pick a destination when the wolverine, Sharptooth he called himself, pounced on him. The fear was not there , just surprise and anger at himself for being so careless.Sharptooth had snarled at him and then backed up, asking him about some meeting ever since.

It was looking at him questioningly again, it had asked him to follow him to a meeting of creatures of differing intelligence levels to discuss the advent of doom. It said this with such a straight face Khon had almost taken him seriously.

"Sure I will come, I am curious as to what you are referring to Sharpie. This doom you speak of, could you elaborate?"

"Well, human, I'm not sure I can tell you yet because I don't know if you can help, but it will do us good to have yet another perspective, you will understand everything when we get there, I am glad you chose to come, and you will not be disapointed. Most  post-humans are either in the ether or so advanced we are not able to communicate with them on any level."

Sharptooth stopped talking and took the lead a few paces in front of him. He chose to follow the creature, it sounded interesting, but the wolverine's lack of specifics about his story unnerved him. Maybe he was leading him to get slaughtered by his wolverine friends. He tactfully withdrew his monoblade and slid it in his belt, easy access. Hopefully if it came, he would see the danger in time.

The End
