What is it good for

Oh my son, my son, my sweet baby boy,

Do you even know what you're fighting for?

Can you still see what was left behind here

When you marched from my arms and out that door?

Do you know that with all of my worries,

I can't say when I last slept through the night?

Can you imagine my terrible nightmares?

Does it matter who's wrong and who's right?

Who are these men, shooting at my boy?

For what great cause are you risking your life?

If your luck runs out, God forbid it does,

What do you want me to tell your young wife?

That you died bravely, serving your country?

Or that you just fought because you were poor?

Oh my son, my son, my sweet baby boy,

Do you even know what we're dying for?
