"Your still not seeing it" I said stubbornly.
"Hello!" someone called from downstairs, I screwed my forehead up in confusion. I put the photo in the back pocket of my jeans and walked out the door.
"Don't even think about it." I muttered back to Oliver who was just behind me as we passed several doors in the hall. I could hear him stifle his laughter as Lucky ran past us and down the stairs.
Peaking my head down the grand stairs I saw a woman in a tight red dress that came just above the knee and her brunette hair pulled back in a tight bun with two big suit cases behind her. Perfection, nothing out of place.
"Oh. Hey Mum."
"Hello dear." she said, not even acknowledging Lucky, in her posh voice. "and hello Oliver."
"Hi." he put his arms round my waist.
"I thought you wouldn't be back till next weekend." I was hoping you weren't back till next weekend was what I really wanted to say.
"Well you know how the French are. Very unreliable." she tutted. Funnily enough I didn't know what the French were like, seeing as you never took me.
"Well I have a lot of work to do. So could you not disturb me." she turned on her heels walking past the suitcases as Rebecca, our house keeper, was expected to take them up to her room and un pack them for her.
"Of course not." I sneered. "You old trout."
"Oh come on, she's not that bad. Sort off." he agreed
"I'd have your mum any day."
"Speaking of mothers, shall we go to mine."
"Is your mum back?"
"She's coming home today but I'm not sure when."
"Then why are you not there?" I told him off "You hardly ever get to see her, at least she gives you a hug when she come through the door."
"Because I wanted to see you. Is that not allowed any more?"
"You sure she wants me there when she gets home? You know, family time and all that."
"Of course not, she loves you!"
The sun was high in the sky as we walked through the gates and up the path. It was like a fairy tale house, with ivy perfectly twisting round the door, but it wasn't a cottage, it was a mansion. We walked as a car was pulling up into one of the three garages.
"Good timing or what?" I laughed as Oliver's mum got out of the car. She waved enthusiastically at us. Grinning, she walked towards us. Martha was a completely different breed to my mum, she was kind loving and always tried to make time for her family.
"You've grown!" she hugged him, he was towering above her slim petite figure. Mine too. "and how are you poppet?" she asked me as she hugged me too.
"Good thank you." I smiled
"Aww, you two are just so cute together!" she smiled opening the big door as we laughed.
"So how have you two been? I'm so sorry for not getting home sooner Oliver."
"It's okay. I had good company." he squeezed my hand as I smiled up at him.
"Are you two hungry?" she asked as we walked through a big reception room and into the large kitchen slash breakfast room.
"No. We just had lunch at Lacey's. Thanks though."
"Yes, thank you Martha."
"Your very welcome. Well, I'm going to get something to eat and then we can catch up."
"Sounds good to me." he smiled at his mother.
