A Painful Decision

Brin'tac stood up from the conference table aboard the Phoenix Moon and addressed his friends. "Every minute we delay may cause my wife and children more pain or discomfort! What if they are being tortured, or put through horrible experiments or tests, or... what if they are...abusing them...."

The Bothan fell back into his chair and put his head in his hands, overcome with emotion. The others sat in silence, unsure of how to respond. Finally, Geldar stood and walked over to him.

"I can only imagine what it must be like to not know the fate of your loved ones. But, please think of my father, Brin'tac. He is in the same situation you are in right now. He does not know the fate of his wife. He doesn't know if she is safe or not. Wouldn't you rather know one way or the other? The trip is on our way. Just give me one day, that's all I ask. Please."

Brin'tac looked up at Geldar. "Of course, my friend. Please forgive my selfishness. Take as long as you need. I only pray that my family are o.k. I don't want to lose them."

Geldar's eyes began to fill with tears. "I know. It is hard to lose someone you love so much."

Feeling that the meeting had ended and their course decided, the rest of the group left Geldar and Brin'tac to work through their grief.

The End
