Chapter nineteen: Talking

Word count: 306

Sitting down on the bed in my room at Danny's house, I thought about what was happening. Everybody seemed to know Danny, one way or another. When I'd agreed to go with him, I'd thought it would just be him and me like it used to be. But no, loads of other people turned up.

The royal vampire, Rhys, seemed to watch Danny constantly, as if expecting him to join the other turned vampires in slaughtering humans. I hoped Danny would prove him wrong, but... you never know, do you?

Maria shuffled into the room. She was still terrified of the other vampires. I didn't know exactly how many of them there were, and I didn't particularly care very much. I hadn't seen anyone else but Maria in quite a while.

"What's going to happen to me?" she murmured.

"I don't know. You can leave if you want to, but you'd probably just get killed, brutally," I said, void of all emotion.

"I know. Can I stay here with you for a while longer?" she asked.

"If you want to. I'm sure Danny's just stopped caring about us now." I didn't mean to sound spiteful but I had a feeling I did.

"I'm sure he does care. He's busy with that guy with the red eyes. I don't know what they were talking about; I was chased out of the room," she said.

"If he does care, I don't anymore."

"Are you and him... going out?"

"What? Me and Danny?" I asked, surprised by her question.

"Yeah. Have you not seen the way he looks at you?"

"No. And even if I have noticed, he doesn't like me that way anyway."

Maria just raised an eyebrow but just shrugged and didn't take the topic further. Danny didn't like me that way. He just didn't. Did he?
