“You’re an asshole, Dawn.” Gabriel growled as his friend came out of the darkness.
“Sorry,” Dawn smiled tiredly “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“You didn’t.” Gabriel growled his annoyance quickly abated as he saw Dawn's face, the daemon looked pale and drawn. “Are you okay?”
“I'm alright,” Dawn said looking out of the window to the dark city far below them, Gabriel heard the big daemon sigh.
“What is it?” Gabriel asked moving to stand beside him.
“I'm just thinking.” Dawn said vaguely.
“About?” Gabriel looked up at the red-brown stone that made up the roof of the enormous cavern that housed Hell.
“Everything and nothing.” Dawn said “nothing really.”
“Why did you follow me?” Dawn smiled still looking outside.
“I saw you walk past.” Dawn looked down at him “I was in the library.”
“Why?” Gabriel asked Dawn laughed.
“I like reading.”
“Not what I meant but fair enough.” Gabriel turned and winced as his chest pulled and he felt the familiar warmth of blood soaking into his shirt. “I'm going back to bed.”
“I suppose I should too.” Dawn sighed.
“But sleep and I aren’t getting along at the moment.” Gabriel laughed as the daemon walked with him down the corridor.
“Do you know the way back?” the vampyre asked.
“Yeah.” Dawn nodded.
They walked in silence, Gabriel didn’t mind it was a nice quiet and Dawn didn’t seem talkative tonight. At his bedroom door he paused.
“Dawn?” he said carefully.
“Hm?” Dawn smiled slightly but the vampyre sighed.
“Goodnight.” He said Dawn frowned raising his arm he blocked the doorway stopping the vampyre from vanishing.
“I'm not really sure,” Gabriel admitted “I guess it’s a bit strange being alone after so long.” Dawn nodded.
“I can join you if you want?” he suggested a small smile appeared.
“Dawn.” Gabriel said a warning tone in his voice.
“I don’t mean that.” Dawn laughed quietly “if you're offering I wouldn’t say no but what I meant is it’s the first night in a new place, a bit of non-naked company would be nice too.”
“You’re going to get a smack” Gabriel growled “come on then, before I change my mind.” Dawn grinned
