Helen - I mean Princess Helen came and sat next to me after a while.
"Hello. How are you?" she asked.
"I'm fine - well" I said. She laughed quietly
"You can save your manners for when the princes arrive" she smiled. I stiffened. Maybe seeing Benja- I mean, Prince Benjamin - wouldn't be so good after all. "What is it?"
"Nothing" I said too quickly. Helen ignored it, probably to be polite. After a while she got up and left. Then I did too. I borrowed a book from the library and went outside to read it. "Oh, Hello Princess Aislinn. I'm Lily. I'm not a princess. I'm a servant." she said. And then she said "What's that you're... reading...?" she turned the word into a question at the last minute. I showed her the cover (I was reading 'The Diary of Ann Frank'. Lily peered at the book and then looked away. She seemed a little embarrassed.
"Umm... can you read?" It sounded rude but there was no other way to put it. Lily shook her head slowly.
"I can't write either" she said. Well, Mother had wanted me to do something useful with my life.
"I could teach you... if you want" I offered.
"Oh, would you? You don't have to but..."
"No, it's fine. Here, let me introduce you the the other princess I know" I said. I led her inside and went in search of Helen
