Princess Helen

Later, I went to find Aislinn. She was closest to my age, and I would go and talk to her. I found her in the dancing hall, sitting on the side. I sat beside her, quiet for a while. She was humming under her breath, and I recognised the melody.

"Hello." I said. "How are you?"

"I'm good- well."

I let out a small laugh. "You can save your manners for when the princes arrive." She stiffened. I wondered what was bothering her. "What is it?"

"Nothing." she said quickly, but I didn't believe it. I leaned back in my chair, reviewing the princes I had met. Many, to be sure, but not past the customary greetings or a quick hello.

I watched the other princesses dancing, laughing, whispering, some leaving, some coming in. Finally I just got bored. I stood up, and breezed through the dancing hall, out into the corridor, up the stairs, and to my room.

I went to my closet, opened it, and started digging through the clutter at the bottom. Finally I found what I wanted- a rather large case of wood covered in leather. Two old-fashioned clasps of silver held it closed.

I opened both clasps, and as I lifted the lid, I smiled. What a surprise everyone else would have!

The End
