...on't know, Edward.  I don't know everything about how this works.  We musn't think of that right now."  Cal pours another brandy and downs it in one go, without offering one to you.

After a few moments of silence, a thought occurs to you. "Hey, you've told me about your...situation, but I thought you wanted my help?  How am I supposed to help you with this?  There's nothing I can do." Your mind relaxes as you are secretly relieved that you won't be able to help him.  You won't have to go through with the deal; now that he's told you everything, you have complete power over him.

One way or another, he will pay for killing my father, you think painfully to yourself.

Cal begins to focus now, as if mention of his plan has put him back on track. "You can help me.  There's a gentleman who you can contact.  He has certain...resources.  Only, I can't go to him myself."

Dinner!

Uh oh. No one's written this branch yet. :o

Author Guidance for this Story

Rac7hel CHARACTERS:
-- You (Edward) - a police officer in your mid-30's
-- Cal Beauchamp - a wealthy, respected 28-year-old businessman who you know to be a murderer.
-- Gabrielle - your 19-year-old sister who is engaged to Cal and recently pregnant.
-- Joseph - normal-looking 30-something-year-old guy who does Tarot readings on the street.
-- Old man - an old man who dresses like a gypsy and works on the street, saying creepy rude things to people for money.
-- Nicolas Dias - depends on who you ask.

SETTING:
New Orleans, present day. Well, let's say pre-Katrina to keep it simple.

STYLE:
The title is Outsmart because the characters are constantly lying and hiding things from each other. OR ARE THEY??? Everyone has his own agenda and probably doesn't want to reveal what that is. But somewhere, deep inside this story, there really is a coherent plot.

NOTE:
If you want to add to the story and wish to know a little more of what Jillian and I are planning, email me and I'll be glad to fill you in!
