"Whshhhs sshgtfffftt...." Those were the voices. Sometimes they didn't make any sense.
"So... I'm Reginald," the kid said. "Who are you?"
"I'm Alyssa," I told him. "Hang on... do you feel that?"
There was a tingling on my right arm. I swatted at my shoulder, where the feeling was. As I did so, I looked to the right. Hanging on the alley wall was a mirror. Unlike everything else in the alleyway, it was clean and shiny.
It didn't seem to be a good idea. But I did it anyway. I poked Reginald and walked over to the mirror. I looked inside and....
It was a normal mirror. Reginald, who had walked with me, was reflected alongside me. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Hang on, wait. One of the boxes behind us. In the real life version, the corner was ripped off. In the mirror, the corner was there.
As soon as this thought formed in my hand, my eyes started burning. They started getting watery, but it felt like they were drying out.
"AAAAAAAAAAGH!" I shouted.
My fingers were starting to stretch. My knuckles cracked, and my palms felt scorched. I couldn't move. I couldn't blink. I couldn't even breathe. I felt my heart in my chest stop beating, and my lungs heaved for air.
Reginald appeared to be undergoing the same experience. Then, the mirror flashed.
The alleyway was empty of life.
