The Kiss

The child pressed her face against the glass so her tears formed raindrops to match the ones on the other side.  A large, caring uncle turned into the bumpy gravel drive and pulled to a stop at the big, grey and red barn.  She dragged her feet through the weeds.  She wanted only the one—images of it unmoving on the road haunted her. They were led up a ladder to the loft where six kittens frisked.  When she carried the furry creature out into the rain, she released her bright smile to kiss it between its tiny grey ears.
