“Don’t do that again.” –Arith said to Saphiro who was walking next to him.
Saphiro turned to look at him. “Don’t do what?” –Saphiro asked a little confused about the sudden sentence.
“You saved me.” –Arith said.
“Yes? Is that some kind of sin?” –Saphiro said while raising an eyebrow.
“No, I mean, you saved me first. I shouldn’t have been saved first, or at all. There are priorities, Phiro. There were children, women and even elderly still falling. And you went for me. Don’t do that again.” –Arith said not even looking at him.
“Arith”-Saphiro said, but he didn’t look at him. “ARITH!” –He said again, but this time with a louder tone. Arith turned to look at him. “Listen to me, I care about everyone here but I also care about you. We’ve been friends since we were kids. I wasn’t letting you…go.” –Saphiro said while looking straight into Arith’s white eyes.
It was Saphiro’s first time letting him know verbally how much he truly cares about him. Surely Arith knew already, but Saphiro had never told him face to face.
Arith smiled. “You’re a really good friend, Phiro. But please, if you ever have to choose between me or one of them, please choose them.” He paused for a second. “And Phiro, I care about you, too.”
Saphiro just looked at him. “He cares about me” –He thought. Those words made Saphiro feel butterflies inside his stomach. As if someone would’ve released a cage full of them.
He’s always felt something towards Arith. His entire life. But he had never told him the truth about his feelings. He was too scared for that. He didn’t even know if Arith… well… He has always had girls chasing him. He has even dated some of them back home. Saphiro didn’t wanted to ruin what they had by telling him the truth. Deep down Saphiro knew he didn’t like him… He loved him. And even if Arith wasn’t interested in him, he promised to protect him no matter what.
