Adelaide sat back clutching her head. What had just happened? She stared at Fogell; he had fainted again, and his skin had a sickly green tinge to it. She could not recall any of the last few moments. The last thing she remembered was her head beginning to spin.
Fogell was beginning to rouse again, his eyelids fluttering open. He pushed himself up to a sitting position and cast his eyes about. He spotted Adelaide, and his eyes widened in horror. He pushed himself back, shuffling across the floor until his back was to the wall. He was shaking violently.
“What’s wrong, Fogell?” Adelaide asked, inching closer to him. Fogell held up a hand, gesturing for her to stay back.
“Don’t come any closer!”
“You are wrong! Your voice and personality completely changed! You had a deep male’s voice, and y-you said....”
“What did I say?”
“Things... bad things”
The door burst open and a flurry of snow blew in. Nancy, another of the local girls entered. She was thoroughly wrapped up in a large jacket and scarves. Nancy was an unusual girl; unfortunate events often occurred in her presence, and she was usually quite unlucky. Nancy wasn’t quite as socially smart as most people, and it often took her longer than most to catch on.
She pushed the door closed behind her, pulled off a woollen hat and let her long blonde hair fall back down her shoulders. She stood looking down at the two on the floor.
“What happened here?”
