"Today we are going to learn the way of the mouse - the most basic steps of all!" Tsukiya's teacher explained, whilst carefully taking off his black pumps so he was bare-footed on the dusty ground and placing them neatly side-by-side next to the temple steps.
Tsukiya wasn't completely up for his exciting new lesson now that he'd learnt his teacher was a complete dick. He couldn't bare this not knowing any longer - he had to confront him.
"What happened to my grandpa?" he burst out quite suddenly, making his teacher jump back with surprise.
"W-well, you see..."
"Why don't you want to tell me?" Tsukiya demanded, getting really pissed off now.
"Because..." his teacher sighed, his shoulders slumping. "It's quite upsetting."
"Don't worry," said Tsukiya confidently. "I can handle it."
His teacher frowned. "Yes, but...it's upsetting for me, too." He sighed once again. "I'll talk about it to you when you're a bit older."
Tsukiya didn't like the sound of that at all. "That's what adults always say," he complained miserably.
"It'll only be a year or two," Tsukiya's teacher replied, a little irritably. "Now, if you'll excuse me, we must get on with our lesson. You do want to become a ninja, don't you?"
So he had no choice but to just keep his mouth shut for now and continue as normal. He soon discovered that he was an amazingly quick learner when it came to ninja moves; he was very pleased with himself and quickly forgot about the whole thing. Until the very next day, at lunch, when one of the other students said something to Tsukiya that he really wasn't expecting...
