Nightmares

A boy called Jaiden begins to realise the significance of his nightmares in the world around him.

Darkness.  Heavy breathing.  A loud heartbeat pumping in his ears.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

Jaiden woke, sat up in his bed sweating over his entire body.  His heart beat pounding in his chest and in his ears.  Awoken from some terrible nightmare he could not recall, by his own heartbeat, pounding in his ears.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

For the first few seconds his entire focus was on himself, then it slowly drifted to the darkness in his room.  Monsters, demons and worse creeping around out of sight, getting ready to pounce on him.  Things with 5 eyes and more, things with melted faces, beasts that howled inside your head, wispy ghouls that spiralled around you out of sight, soulless monsters with yellow eyes and spiky skin with a hungry look across their face, creatures with no names and creatures with names so frightening they could stop your heart.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

The drumming sound of his heart calling them to him like the battle drums of war.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

He made a dash for the light switch.  He kept his eyes shut as he flicked the switch, they were all behind him now, so close, desperately clawing the air to drag him back.

The light glimmered to life.  He turned around quickly,  opening his eyes.  No monsters hiding in the corners, no creatures with melted faces trying to steal his soul.  He was safe, but something was wrong.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

The sound in his head was so loud now.

*Baddum* *Baddum*

Then Jaiden realised, the beating sound wasn't coming from him.

The End
