I woke up to the moonlight shining in my face. I rolled over to look at the time.
“Two o’clock in the freaking morning!” I groaned as I rolled back over. The moon was still in my face. I rolled out of bed to pull my blinds down. When I saw a white wolf standing outside my window. It was just standing there, staring at me. Then, it turned around and walked towards the forest behind the house. It took a few steps, then turned back and looked at me. It looked like it wanted me to follow it. So despite my greater judgment, I climbed out my window and followed.
The moon was full and abnormally large and bright. It shined bright enough that I could see my way through the dense forest. I followed the wolf through the forest to the nearby river. At first I didn’t see anything. Then I saw her.
She was sitting on the trunk of an up-rooted tree. The wolf had its head lying in her lap. I was just about to back away when my foot snapped a twig. She and the wolf looked at me. I closed my eyes and started to back away again when I heard her angelic voice calling to me.
“Please, don’t go.” She called. I opened my eyes to see her standing close to me.
She had long, fire red hair and green eyes that reminded me of the forest after a thunderstorm. She wore a long, black dress with a deep-blue outline that showed her stomach and most of her left leg. On her stomach was a sapphire blue rose just above her belly button. On her arms, she had what looked like a tattoo of a deep-blue almost black rose vine that twisted around her arms that went from her wrists to her elbows. The tattoo had intriquite combinations of thorns, blue rose buds, and on the back of her hands were fully bloomed blue roses. She had the same tattoo on her left leg.
“Who…who are you?” I barely managed to say.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” She answered in a playful tone and giving me a dazzling smile that took my breath away. “Come. We shall talk.”She said motioning towards the trunk. I slowly walked towards her, keeping my eyes on the wolf.
“She won’t bite.” She said taking my hand. As soon as my hand touched hers, I saw a vision of her lying in my arms. But as soon as the vision came, it went. She led me to the trunk and sat. I suddenly felt self-conscious standing here in nothing but my boxers. As if she could read my thoughts, she giggled and pulled me to sit beside her. She laid her head down on my shoulder. Suddenly, a word popped in my head.Mine! Before I could figure out what it meant, a loud humming started coming from somewhere. I looked over to see she had a sad look on her face.
“It’s time for you to go.” She said disappointedly.
“But I just got here.” I hoped she didn’t notice the whine in my voice.
“You’ll see me again.” She said in a giggle (she noticed the whine).
“Sooner than you think.” She said with a wink as she grabbed my arm and kissed my forearm.
Then there was a flash of light. Suddenly, I heard my mom’s voice.
“You’re going to be late on your first day back if you don’t get up.”
“Okay, okay. I’m up.” I said groggily. I got up and took a shower. As I stood there, letting the water run over me. I couldn’t help but think of her. It wasn’t anything sexual. I mean she was sexy and beautiful but the images in my head were of her lying in my arms, those beautiful green eyes looking up at me and a smile growing across her face as she saw me looking. I shook my head as I turned the water off.How could some girl from my dreams have me so….?I couldn’t finish the thought. Just as I walked out of the bathroom and past the mirror I caught a glimpse of something blue. I looked into the mirror and saw that a blue rose had come up on my forearm…where she kissed it. As I stood there staring at it, I heard her voice in my head.Mine! Then my phone rang, making me jump.
“Hello.” I answered
“Hey Daniel. You think you and the guys could come over tonight?” Victor asked.
“Yeah, man. Why?”
“There’s something I want to show y’all. I got to go. See y’all later.” He hung up. I pushed the thought of her out of my head (unsuccessfully) and got dressed and rushed out the door just in time to catch the bus.
