Next week Fabiola and I are going to the colosseum to visit with her twin brother, Felix. Fabiola and Felix have been my closest friends for years, my only friends. We met when I was just six, they seven. It was soon after the Great Earthquake, and my father needed some help around the house. He purchased a new slave, a man who's wife had been killed in the Earthquake. My father is a compassionate man and allowed the man to keep his children. At that time, I did not get along well with others my age. But here were two new faces, and I was date to make new friends. After a bit of persuading from my father, the three of us ran off. We have been inseparable since.
But five years ago, the colosseum was rebuilt, and Felix was sent there to train as a gladiator. That was by car the worst day of my life, and I'm sure Fabiola's as well. We could no longer see him everyday, and there was no guarantees that he would survive the year.
But Felix is strong, and he soon rose through the ranks to become one of the most popular fighters here in Pompeii. And Fabiola and I could not be more proud if him. We can't wait to see him next week.
All my love,
