My Little Anniemature
Where did the time go? My little Annie had grown so quick. It seemed only a few years had passed since she was given to us. Now I stand here teary eyed as I prepare to say my last goodbye.
A group of vultures pecked at a dead raccoon. Annie knelt beside them and they pretended not to notice.
She looked up at me. “Papa, I’m hungry.”
I nodded. “Eat child, eat.”
She dug in and tore through the animal’s intestines, chewed and smacked her lips. I smiled, proud of her, then turned away. She had finally flown the coop.
