I had no idea what I was planning to do once inside the locked up pool. Maybe it was adventure I was searching for. I don’t know what I was after but I didn’t want to look stupid. I kicked off my flip-flops and sat on the pool’s edge, dipping my feet into the icy water.
It felt kind of nice.
I heard Riley lock the gate back and then he took a seat beside me, taking off his sneakers. “What are you doing here, Allie?” he asked.
I shrugged, blowing at my hair in the process. “I don’t know. I just needed time to think.”
“Think about what?”
“Some stuff.” I guess I could have told Riley my complete crazy story because he’s one of those guys that will listen but something told me to hold back my feelings tonight. Maybe they would come into use later—just one of those instinct feelings.
The sun was completely gone now and I sighed loudly. “What?”
“Don’t think I’m crazy. But … another day has gone.”
Riley nodded, rubbing at his head. “Yep, another day has gone. What’s tomorrow bringing for you?”
I shrugged again. “Sh*t.”
He laughed, shoving at my shoulder and I started cracking up with him.
It was one of those moments when the camera should be rolling, recording every second of randomness. And then weeks months or years later, watching the video is like being in that moment all over again. Laughing about it because it’s so stupid and yet … something you won't forget.
