"I'm Lily." I smiled. "Lily MacGregor."
He gasped. "Oh, um, I- I'm-" he cleared his throat and quickly shook my hand. "My name is Patrick Johnnes." he said with a nervous smile. I almost laughed. The poor guy was a wreck! It's not his fault he bumped into me at the train station, he was just in a hurry, same as me.
I nodded. "I'm heading to Edinburgh for Christmas with my family." I told him. "Is that where you're heading?" Patrick nodded and got out his laptop. Hmmm, a bring-work-with me type of guy?
We were both silent for a few minutes.
"Is this your first time in Scotland?" he asked suddenly, without looking up from whatever he was doing.
"Yeah, yours?" I asked, looking up from the email I was writing to my mom. Have to keep in touch, or else she goes nuts. Now I know how Elisabeth felt about her worrysome mother.
"Nope. Spending Christmas and New Years in Edinburgh, then going back to New York." He said matter-of-factly as he continued typing. I snagged a look at what he was doing out of the corner of my eye. Facebook? Could be worse.
Well, might as well finish that email:
Just boarded the train to Edinburgh. I almost goy knocked over by someone at the train station. Sorry I couldn't go earlier, but, you know, school and all. Have to commute, etc. University rocks (glad I have my own place, though! and I'm only 19. You proud, or what?). SO, with plenty of irony, I ended up sitting next to the guy who bumped into me at the station. The poor guy was a wreck when he recognized me. He seems nice, though. See you soon! Lots of love, Lily.
