I opened my eyes to find myself on a tiny island where the ground was the white sand of a beach that covered the land and a single palm tree grew. The sea around us was a light turquoise colour and reminded me of the time I had been to the Galápagos Islands with my school. Just like there, there were cute sea lions with sleek brown fur swimming around. I adored sea lions. I loved their big eyes and their whiskers and they just were adorable.
"Am I adorable?" Kieran asked, with big eyes and a cute expression on his face.
I laughed. "Yes, of course you are."
Kieran smiled and leant down and kissed me. I sighed contentedly as he broke away and pulled me down to sit on the beach. The sand was warm beneath me and really quite comfy. I looked around but could see no sign of a door. It must have been a magical one. I looked up and saw that the sun was blazing brilliantly in the sky, a white circle in the endless blue, which was, to make things even more perfect, empty of clouds.
I looked down at Kieran. "I love this place."
"Me too," he said.
We lay down. I gazed at the sky, not thinking anything in particular. I absently found Kieran's hair with my fingers and started twining them in it. He moved his head to the side and kissed my palm.
"I can't believe I didn't want to spend forever with you," I murmured. "You know such romantic locations and you yourself couldn't be more perfect."
"You weren't to know," Kieran said. "You were scared."
I sighed. "But can you imagine if I hadn't said yes? I would have missed out on all these wonderful moments we've shared."
"Don't worry about it. What matters is what you have chosen and since you're happy, you can forget you were ever not content."
"I like the idea of forgetting my old life. I mean, what did I actually leave behind? Nothing. People I cared about who secretly weren't too concerned about me. You know what, I wouldn't be surprised if my parents adopted."
"Well, they don't see how special you are."
"Thank goodness someone does." I rolled over onto my side. "I'm so incredibly grateful to you, Kieran. You've made my life ... blissful." I smiled.
He smiled back. "I'd do anything for you."
"Anything would suffice as long as you were in the picture."
"Aw, that's sweet of you."
"I find compliments generally have to be inspired, so they're sincere."
Kieran leant in and kissed me.
"You're the most perfect girl in the world," he murmured, and kissed me again.
I held him tightly, adoring the feel of his body warmth.
"We'll stay here till sunset, if that's all right," Kieran said.
"Ah, sunset is beautiful... And so romantic. We could stay longer. I love having no obligations..."
Kieran sighed. "Wish I didn't," he muttered resentfully.
"I feel so sorry for you," I murmured, stroking his cheek. "Bliss shouldn't be tainted. You should be allowed to spend your life how you choose to."
"Don't worry about it," Kieran said, and kissed me to make me forget.
