"I moved here in 1961 with my husband."
I had known my Japanese neighbor for more than ten years. Her subtle humor and practicality had charmed me since the day I met her. As a young girl, I jumped at the opportunity to run some groceries to her house, just to have the privelege of spending a few minutes with her. At six years old, I didn't have the slightest clue how Mrs. Molan, or Miss Pay as I called her, had ever landed herself in this little American town.
Sitting in a circle surrounded by my close friends, I faced Miss Pay, who stood before us all, prepared to share her story.
