I woke up to the sound of thunder. A flash of lightning lit up my room. Rain began to fall. A strong wind made the windows clatter and crash. I was back on Earth again.
I was perplexed. Was Sora a dreamland or an alternate reality? Would Mabaya kill me or cage me forever? And why? I glanced at the clock, as these thoughts sped through my mind. It was midnight. I crept to the front door. I tried my best to open it quietly. It creaked, but my parents did not awaken. I stepped into the rain. I allowed the water to drench me, forgetting about everything. I watched as my fears from Sora rinsed off me into puddles on the tar. I thought about my dad. If this weather ensued, he'd have to cancel the mission.
I was surrounded by darkness. I could hear the rain pitter-patter on the rooftop. It smelled lovely. I shivered. It was almost as if I had become a part of the rain and vanished into it.
A bird sang somewhere in the distance. I couldn't see it, but I could hear it clearly. I had never heard a bird sing at night before. In the rain, too! I smiled. This bird had the courage to sing when no-one else did. It let its beautiful song bring light when it was in the darkness.
"Goodbye midnight songbird!" I whispered, and then went back to bed.
