I try not to look at Mum as I get out of the car. I do not want to listen to her ramble about good behaviour and 'if you get one detention, young lady'. The same ramble she's put me through every year on the first day of school, even primary school. I mean, you don't even get detention at primary school, you get kept in for a pitiful five minutes at break.
Only this time my mum wants it to get good and stuck in my head because she's not gonna see me again until Christmas, and maybe she wont even see me then. Coz she's putting me in a boarding school.
"Mum, I know" I interrupt her "Listen, I'm gonna miss you"
"I'm going to miss you too, honey" she smiles. "But you'll make some new friends here"
Huh. 'New friends'. She says it like I had friends in the other school.
"I know" I sigh. "Bye Mum"
"Goodbye Aislinn" she hugs me and I hug her back. Then she drives away. God, I'm gonna miss her. I walk down the path to the place I'm gonna live at for the next five years. The woman at the desk smiles at me warmly when I walk in.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
"Uh, I'm Aislinn White. I'm new here" I say.
"Oh! Welcome to Tred's!" she exclaims. I already know that 'Tred's' is the nickname for Tredna's Boarding School. (I'll always think the name is weird. I mean, who calls their kid Tredna?).
"Thanks" I smile. She comes round so that she's standing next to me.
"Come on, I'll show you to your room" she takes my hand and leads me up some stairs to a door. "Here we are. I'll let you get to know everybody on your own" she grins at me and then goes back down the stairs. Well, so far so good. I just hope at least one person likes me. I take a deep breath and knock on the door.
