“Why am I here?” I asked. The old man looked at me softly, a look of sympathy in his eyes.
“My dear, haven’t you realised?” He asked. I shook my head. “You are destined to be the next Oracle of Oamaru.”. He let that sink in. Me? Ember Evergreen? An Oracle?
“There must be some mistake! It can’t be me!” I exclaimed.
“There is no mistake. It is you. But, we fear there is danger ahead. Look into the sacred pool and see what fate awaits you and your friends.”. I thought he was mad, but I did as I was asked. When I looked into the water, the images scared the life out of me. There was Katherine in a dungeon in a place that looked all too familiar. The boy, Charlie, was in the middle of some kind of transformation process. Phobos was preparing some kind of magic ritual. The images faded, and I immediately knew what I had to do. I headed for the door in a quick pace.
“Ember, where the heck are you going!” Called Lucus.
“To save Katherine.” I replied. Before long, they were running to catch up with me.
“What are you talking about?” Caleb demanded.
“Charlie was sent to get me. You were right Caleb, he was a Night Bender. And he’s captured the wrong girl.” Was all I said in reply. Lucus ran forward and shouted,
“Well what are we waiting for then, a signed invitation from Phobos himself?”. Caleb and I were sprinting towards the hills after Lucus in no time. Phobos had the wrong girl, and I intended to let him know. He wasn’t going to know what hit him.
