...ing hit by a car on the wobbly way home. I am a little drunk, I can feel that now. Have I just experienced a micro dream? Yes, but the memory of what just happened is vivid, it has weight, not like a dream. Maybe it was an alcohol induced hallucination? I don’t feel tired, but maybe it’s my mind’s subtle way of telling me to turn everything off and go to bed? That must be it. But… No, that’s not it!

I decide to try something.

Attempt to control the dream

Adman "I love lucid dreaming, I did it a lot as a child. One of my favorite past times. I actually kind of became overly obsessed with trying to do it all the time, a couple years ago. Not only did I not achieve it, but I got such little REM sleep that I almost went crazy.

the lesson is that life is more important then dreams

Glenakin "Happens to me every time. I know I'm dreaming when something seems too good to be true. Like me killing people. I would never kill people. Once I see something like that happening, I just say to myself, 'This isn't right,' and will myself to wake up. Hey, happened yesterday!
One time, I was the king of England. That was fun. But it was so sad cos I realised that it wasn't true and I woke up. Damnit. I just wish I could stay a little longer!

DrPinch "Who says you have to copy the style? Take it any way you want! As long as it stays first person, this could be anyone from anywhere doing anything...!

I thought either they panic and try to wake up but realise they can't (or that when they do it is a "false awakening" and therefore still a dream), or that they begin to experiment with the degree of power they have, i.e. to what degree they are in control at this point - eventually becoming more powerful...

But I'm open minded...

seldom "Sure someone else can tho. where did you think it might go?"

seldom "not me lol. Alright with the making up of the creatures but I can't copy this style"

DrPinch "Cool. So anyone fancy writing a branch? We are in control now... Let's see where it takes us!"

Writers_Block "I've only ever been able to control my dream once, and the only way I did it was by realizing that I was dream. I'm not sure what caught me to realize that it was a dream, but from then on I was able to control the whole schematics of the dream.

It was interesting to see what I could add and take away, like a movie I was constantly editing.

Rac7hel "One way that you learn to get better at it is by concentrating on the dreams every night before you sleep and every morning when you wake up. Write things down, try to remember all the details. Specifically remember decisions that you made and things that happened as a result.

And, to practice realizing that you're dreaming, you can make a habit of doing little tests on yourself in real life. Like flicking the lights on and off to make sure they really work, checking a digital watch, etc. In theory, if it's a habit in life you will be likely to try it when dreaming.

Waking Life was very cool. But why don't you think fantasy and reality should "mix"? I doubt that by practicing lucid dreaming one would somehow ruin one's waking life. Unless it's a person who already doesn't have a good grip on life.

seldom "nice!

I've done it too, I have great powers in dreams - can beat up anyone lol ;-) and found i can steer then to the point where I want them to go.

I dont know how its done, or how someone could learn to be better at it. a hard thing to hold on to.

DrPinch "I have done it, but mostly by accident. Although certain techniques claim to make it easier if you practice. I just never wanted to devote that much time to it, because I believe (now) that fantasy and reality should not mix.

Did you see the film Waking Life by Richard Linklater? It's a good starting point for this debate.

Rac7hel "Can you do it? I frequently have that mid-dream realization that I'm dreaming, but the hard part is staying asleep after that point. If I make it past that intial moment without waking up, I can sometimes keep controlling my dream for quite a while. At least it seems like a while in dream-state."
Just Chatting
DrPinch "For anyone who doesn't know, lucid dreaming is a technique where the person, through practice, can control the dream environment. It's real. It can be done.

What I'm interested in is the potential addiction to a fantasy world this might create as opposed to the harsh reality of an uncontrolable "real" world.

If you become a master at the technique there literally is no limit to what can be done other than imagination...!
