"Liza, you know I want to be with you forever, but I don't want to do anything to hurt you. With your health, it could kill you."
She shakes her head and motions to the rest of her paralyzed body. "Drake, I'm already as good as dead now that I can't move. Please, change me so I can be whole again with you."
I sigh and look over my shoulder at the door of her hospital room. The door remains closed, the first it has since her accident.
I kneel down beside her and pull her soft brown hair away from her throat. "I love you," I say just before I sink my fangs into her skin.
She thrashed wildly for a minute, the machine monitoring her heart-rate beeping wildly. My eyes flicker from her face to the machine.
"I…love…you," she says between clenched teeth. Liza closes her eyes. I slowly stand and take a step back as the nurses and doctors run in her room to try and save her. No matter what they do, her eyes don't open.
"I'm sorry, sir, but your girlfriend's dead, there's nothing we can do. I'm sorry for your loss," says the doctor.
I nod. "Can I have one last moment with her? To say goodbye?"
The doctor nods and walks out, followed by the nurses. The last nurse closes the door behind her.
I wait till I'm sure they're gone, and then I lean back down over Liza's still form and grab her hand. "Liza? It's Drake. Can you open your eyes?"
Her eyes remain closed and her skin starts to lose its warmth. She doesn't move.
I sink down completely on the floor. "What have I done?"
