The Sea and the Sand

"Well...I will tell you where I was born...

It was an isle in the Indian Ocean...not far away from the mainland. Pristine as it can be...crystal blue water that dazzled in the light and never shied away from showing what it held...the ocean bed before the eyes and the ridges...schools of fishes and some of them which chose to be solitary. Weeds that grew underwater and rocks that hid crabs and kind beneath them and colorful reefs.

The isle itself was bathed in green...trees as far as the eye can see...resting in the shadows of each other...uninhabited...

And it was on this island that I was born...along with seven of my brothers and sisters. My mother didn't bother to name any of us and I would get my name from a human...but all that later.

The island was a breeding ground was sea turtles, my mother being one of them. She could sleep on the ocean bed for hours, her respiratory system had adapted itself. And her limbs resembled fins, lithe and strong.

Our mother always taught us never to go far away from the island as there were multiple threats to our existence. The biggest of them were fishermen who liked trapping young turtles likes us for reasons that will make you shudder. There were about fifty turtles on that island and it was a peaceful community. In fact, we were so mesmerized that we forgot we were living...

We would dive deeper into the ocean, the entire lot of us, further than what we were allowed by our mother and would often get scolded for it. We ran into octopuses, terns, crabs and other creatures of the sea. We once even caught a glimpse of a shark passing by-"

"Balderdash," croaked Bucky. "You tell me you've seen a shark? Ha! Shark can smell blood for miles...you wouldn't be alive."

Lolo shrugged. "Maybe sharky didn't want tidbits like us. That was when we got lost in the sea...

That brings me to..."

The End
