I found a phone away from most classrooms of either kind and put change into it so that I could call the house line. She picked up within the first two rings.
“Hello? Is this Jun? Has there been a problem?” I sucked breath into my lungs and nodded even though I knew she couldn’t see me.
“Mom? What’s happening to me?” I whispered through the wire and I swear Mom’s heart stopped on the other side and then she broke down crying.
“My son, my baby boy. Please don’t tell me this. Please tell me this is a joke, a lie.” I shook my head, tears forming in my eyes again.
“I wish Mom, I wish this was all a big joke, a big joke on the two of us but I have no idea what is going on. I am so confused. Mom I-today I threatened Meir like I was a monster like he is and I know you know that he is so don’t even bother trying to hide it from me right now because I can’t contain all that I know right now. What is happening to me? What am I becoming? Who are you? W-Who are we?” She sucked in another deep breath as she tried to get a hold of her emotions.
“I-I can’t tell you over the phone Jun. It will have to wait till after school, and that includes after gym today. I know you need the answers right now but I don’t trust the phone line you’re using and it is far too sensitive for others to know. I...I will pick you up from school so we can talk on the way back, alright?” I agreed and I could feel the relief through the phone because I understood that some things needed to be told in the comfort of your own home, no matter the ghosts that lived there. “All I can say now Jun is that you might be in quite a bit of danger. There might be...some bad people after you now that they know you are alive.” I swallowed.
“I will see you later Jun. Love you.”
“Yeah, love you too Mom.”
