"That reminds me," I said, turning to Rameyza. "You still have my crystal. I would like it back."
"I can't give it to you," he said, not looking at me.
"What do you mean, you can't?" I was fighting to stay calm.
"I don't have it. It's not mine, gems of that power cannot be kept by another for long. They will alway return to their owner."
"Well, it hasn't returned to me."
"Wait. You said you heard voices before Rameyza found you?" said Hilanja.
"Yes- but what has that got to do with anything?" I asked, even though some part of my subconscious knew what she was suggesting.
"What did they say?" she asked.
"They said- I said not yet! Why did you bring the soul here? Put it back like I told you to! The guy speaking sounded like he was royal. And angry."
"If one of them took you, even if they weren't meant to, your crystal will have gone to them."
"No way. Not him," breathed Kamen. I jumped, I'd almost forgotten he was there.
"Who?" I asked, scared by Kamen's tone of voice. He looked at me, his dark eyes full of fear and hatred.
"Do you know who Ecanem is?"
