Seito smiled softly as he heavily swung the axe down onto the log of wood that stood in front of him, nearly splitting the stump below it in half during the process. He didn’t notice the brief star-eyed look from Damon behind him and when he turned, Damon shook his head to compose himself and smile at the beautiful aristocrat. Seito smiled back at him in return.
“You’re really strong, sir,” he said and Seito raised an eyebrow.
Damon swallowed as Seito came up to him and handed him back the axe.
“We’re friends now, Damon,” he said “Please, call me Seito. I’m sure friends aren’t formal with one another.”
Damon hunched his shoulders shyly and sagged them while placing the axe down along with all the others. He sighed as he glanced at Seito slightly unsure to how to answer him.
“I’m sorry, S…Seito,” he stuttered out and leaned against one of the walls of his cottage “But I would prefer to get to know you better before going onto informal terms.”
Seito raised an eyebrow and smirked, sitting down on the stump with his legs crossed.
“Do you know how tiring it is having people around you calling you ‘lord’ and ‘sir’?” he asked “Do you realise how boring a life of luxury can get?”
He scoffed and looked away, scowling into space distastefully.
“You wouldn’t,” he commented before Damon could answer “You probably would want to swap places with me because you are not as fortunate.”
Damon bit his lip nervously at the negative aura around Seito and looked away.
“Well, I like my life,” he said and sighed as he remembered all the good things he had “I’m happy being here in a peaceful environment like this and being surrounded by the beauty of Mother Nature. I don’t want anyone to take that away from me.”
“I wouldn’t mind starting a new life here,” Seito commented wistfully while looking around at the greenery “All alone where no-one can bother me and I am free to do what I wish. You are alone here, aren’t you?”
“Well, I do get the odd one or two visits from my girlfriend who lives in the village…” Damon said as he shrugged and rubbed the back of his head.
Seito’s face fell as he felt his heart pulse painfully at the mention of a girlfriend. As he blocked out Damon’s words, he tipped his head back and stared at the sky above him. With a grimace, he held back the disappointment. Of course, he hardly knew this young man. Of course he would have a girlfriend, Seito should have known before riding out to meet the young man. He was very beautiful and young after all. But as Seito gazed into Damon’s bright eyes, he felt himself smile to see the beauty within this young man. Seito decided that even though he couldn’t have Damon for himself, he could at least be his friend and enjoy the little freedom that he had before his wedding.
