Answers:

One of the themes in the book is, always be ready for anything good or bad. In the book for this week's chapters, Peter died and many others too. This caught many of the characters off guard because everything was starting to die down and become normal. Then Miranda wanted to kill herself when she got to the city she found people giving out food to the public. So this stopped her from the kill to go back home and wait for tomorrow. This also happens in the rest of the book as well, like when the meteor hit the moon, Mom hurting her ankle, them all getting sick are all examples of this theme.

The forces that made Miranda do what she did in this week's chapters are numerous. One of them is when Peter died and that her mother and brothers are sick at home with the flu. The main one that forced Miranda to want to kill herself  is that they were running out of food for the family. So Miranda went to the city thinking that this would be the last day she lives, then she finds people giving out food. This brought u her emotional state a lot and that changed he remind of killing herself.

The novel does distort gender roles in the book giving separation. One of them is that all of the doctors are men that being Peter. The men also cut the wood fixing the house thing that men need to do. The women do things inside, like cooking, doing the dishes, and the laundry. So the author of 'Life as we knew it' put in a lot of distortion between the two genders. Saying that men are stronger than the women and they should be outside and, doing the hard work that women can't.
