Letters to the World
Dear You,
Yes you, the person that is now reading this letter.
Do you have any idea how amazing you are? And I'm not just saying that, I actually mean it. I want you to do me a massive favor for a moment ok? I want you to sit down and take a pen and paper. With it, I want you to draw a circle with your name in it and then draw lines out from it and write down 3 things that you are good at. Now be realistic about it, 3 things that you are amazing at, be it playing guitar, listening to people's problems, cooking, speaking a language, I really don't care, just write it down.
Now that you have it written down, I want you to think of times that you have used that particular gift to help someone, even if it was singing a song to a friend to cheer them up. I want 3 things for each of the 3 things you wrote down. And don't you DARE try to tell me that there isn't anything.
Now look at that page in front of you. That is what we call a ripple effect. You have no idea how one little action that you do can change someone's life. You truly are amazing. There is nobody in the world like you because you are totally unique and gifted. You can do anything that you want to do. You have the strength inside of you to do it.
You know, a lot of people think that wealth is what they need to make them happy, or lots of friends, or better clothes etc...
You are already so much better off then most of the world. If you are reading this then you have internet which means you have a phone/computer/android tablet etc. You also have to have somewhere to plug in or charge these things, thats a roof over your head, if you can afford electricity, internet and a computer then I'm pretty sure you're not starving, unless you're suffering from anorexia (I'll get to that eventually) and doing it on purpose.
You have so much more and yet, most of you will still find things to be upset about, to moan and whine about......then you look at these kids in Africa and India, in China, Japan and other places. These videos of poor children smiling as they receive a gift shoebox from a charity aid worker that was wrapped up by us and we bought a few nice things to throw in.... and we don't realise the significance that we have on someone's life by doing something that we consider SO insignificant.
Which brings me back to the point that I was originally trying to make. Even if you have never done a Christmas shoebox appeal, even if you have NEVER given any sort of donation to charity. You have still, at some point in your life, changed someone's world around in a very unique way that only you could do. Maybe you have even indirectly stopped someone from killing themselves or someone else.
You can't save everyone, but those that you do and those that you do and don't even know about....that's what makes it all worthwhile.
Create a ripple effect. Buy a homeless person a cup of coffee, smile at someone on the street, stop caring about what people think of you, because that makes you blend into the background, and there should be no background in this world, there should be no dull colours.
Remember, you are a beautiful kind and caring person. Yes you! I'm talking to you. The person reading this! So remember that!!
Much lovely love,
Alli
