"Look at this," I said, handing him the sheet of paper. He read through the lyrics.
"I know this song," he said, "It's Manchester Orchestra."
"Yup," i replied, "So what's it about?"
"It's about his girlfriend, or wife or whatever, dying in a car crash, and she was pregnant."
"How do you know?"
"Well, what parts of the song tell you that?" i said.
So we started breaking the song down - what each line meant, or resembled, or referred to. I realised how bright he was. He really understood the song.
"So next time you have to look at a poem, pretend it's a song, and you'll be fine," i said.
"Yeah, like it'll be that easy," he laughed.
