It was a fall day, not too cool, but a little nippy. Our teacher graciously ended the last class of the day early and I was looking forward to getting home. I decided that since the weather was so fine, I would walk to the second bus stop.

I think I need to explain that a bit. The university is on the other side of the city from where I live, and I have to transfer buses on the way home. Now, there is one road that heads straight south from the university that intersects with the road that the second bus route runs along, but there are very few buses that run along the straight south road. However, there are a lot of buses that run on another route that is a more roundabout way to get to the second road. So I decided to try walking the short road, rather than wait for the bus.

I mean, what's the loss? Its about a 10 minute wait for the first bus, and then about a 7 minute ride, and you can never tell when the second bus will come. There's been a lot of construction recently, and the bus has been way off schedule before. I figured I could walk there in 20 minutes, and, as likely as not, I could catch the bus right away. Even if it didn't work out, I would get my exercise for the day.

I had no idea how much this one little decision would impact the rest of my life.
